Your website isn’t a one and done job. Just like everything else in your business it needs upkeep to maintain it’s quality and effectiveness. But updating your website shouldn’t be overwhelming or something you constantly put off. With a little intention and regular check-ins, your site can evolve right alongside your business. Reflecting your current offers, brand voice, and the clients you’re most excited to serve!

Keywords & SEO
This may just be the most important out of these 5 steps. Your SEO (search engine optimization) is what helps people find YOU. Not just your industry or service in general, but your business specifically. Without strong SEO, you could have the most beautiful website in the world, but if no one can find it, it won’t do much for your growth. Think of SEO as your digital breadcrumb trail. It guides potential clients from their Google search straight to your virtual doorstep!

Update Your Photos
As a brand photographer I know the power of updated photos. Recently I had a client make a new listing on Etsy with the same product as another listing she already had. The only difference was updated photos. And guess what? She said that 75% of her orders come from the listing with my photos. My point is this, updated photos gives your business more authority online and helps build trust before you even get a potential client on the phone!

Check Your CTA’s
Your CTAs (call to actions) are the signposts that guide visitors toward the next step. Whether that’s booking a service, filling out a form, or downloading a free resource. But as your business grows and evolves, your goals (and offers) often change. Which means your CTAs should too. Regularly checking your CTAs ensures they’re still aligned with your current services, messaging, and client journey.

Update Your Branding
Your branding, especially your colors and fonts, is one of the first things visitors notice when they land on your website. It sets the tone for how your business feels and helps communicate your personality, professionalism, and values. Updating your branding ensures your website still feels aligned with who you are, what you offer, and who you’re trying to attract. As your business grows and evolves, your visual identity should grow with it!

Update Your Messaging
Similar to branding, you messaging may change with time. Sometimes that has to do with new attitudes or understanding in your industry. Or you may just be pivoting your business to new services/products. Either way, look at your messaging on your website with a critical eye at least once a year! Consider your offers, brand personality and the type of client you’re trying to attract. Does your copy still speak directly to them? Are you clearly communicating your value and what sets you apart? Keeping your messaging fresh, aligned, and authentic ensures your website continues to connect with the right people while inspiring them to take action.

Updating your website is a constant chore, but is well worth it! After all, this is your face to the internet and a lot of people’s first impression of your business.
