A branding session isn’t just about great lighting and flattering angles. It’s about showing up as the best, most confident version of you. While strategic brand prep (like defining your vision and voice) sets the foundation. There are some simple, practical things you can do physically to make sure you look and feel amazing on shoot day.
Here’s a checklist of my favorite pre-session beauty prep tips to help you glow in front of the camera.

Book Your Hair Appointment
Whether you’re getting a fresh cut, a color touch-up, or simply deciding how you want to wear your hair for the session, plan this out ahead of time. If you’re not sure what will look best, ask your photographer (that’s me!) or your stylist for input that matches your brand vibe. Also, don’t try anything drastically new right before your shoot. Stick to what makes you feel like you, just a little more polished.
Fresh Nails
Your hands show up in more photos than you realize. Think laptop shots, holding a coffee mug, writing in a notebook. Clean, polished nails (even just a simple nude or clear coat) instantly elevate your overall look. No need for fancy designs or bold colors, as those can make your photos feels dated. Instead stick to a neat and intentional look.

Hydrated!
Hydrate like it’s your job! Seriously, start drinking extra water a few days before your session. Hydrated skin looks smoother, plumper, and healthier. Plus, you’ll feel more energized, and that shows on camera.
In addition to drinking more water, hydrate your skin with oils and lotions in the days leading up to your branding session. Put lotion on the morning of your shoot, especially if you’ll have any skin showing (arms, legs, hands).
Get Your Beauty Sleep
Don’t underestimate the power of rest. Puffy eyes and low energy are tough to hide in photos. Aim to get a full night’s sleep for at least two nights leading up to your shoot. Your skin, eyes, and mood will thank you! In addition, sleep helps with immunity, so you wont be fighting a cold during your photos, or having to reschedule for another time.

A Fresh Smile
Your smile is one of the most magnetic parts of your brand presence. If you want to brighten it up a bit, I recommend Luminex whitening strips. They’re all-natural, gentle, and won’t hurt your teeth or gums like some other products do. Just a little whitening can make a big impact in your confidence and in photos.
Say No To Self-Tanner
I get it, you want that bronzy, sun-kissed glow. But self-tanner doesn’t always photograph well. It can look orange, uneven, or create strange tones under studio lights. If you want a bit of warmth, bronzing makeup is a better route for camera-ready results. And if you do tan regularly, give it a few days to a week before your branding session for your tanner to settle in.

These beauty tips aren’t about achieving perfection. They’re about helping you feel your best, so your natural confidence can shine through. When you’ve prepped your body and your mindset, you’ll walk into your branding session feeling unstoppable.
