How to Stand Out When Everyone Looks the Same

This business podcast for women business owners is all about how to stand out from your competition by looking different.
This business podcast for women business owners is all about how to stand out from your competition by looking different.

It has never been easier to start a business. And it has never been harder to make money in one. Those two things are not a coincidence. The market is flooded with side hustles, AI-generated content, and businesses that all look and sound exactly alike. But here’s what most people don’t realize: you don’t have to be louder to stand out. You just have to be more recognizable.

How to Stand Out When Everyone Looks the Same… Without Shouting Over Everyone

Picture a networking event where everyone is talking at once. It doesn’t matter how loud you get… you’re still only reaching the three people closest to you. The whole room isn’t hearing you. The answer isn’t volume. It’s recognition. Nike doesn’t need to explain itself. Coca-Cola doesn’t need to shout. You know them instantly because they’ve built something unmistakable. That’s what a real brand does for your business.

How to Stand Out When Everyone Looks the Same… By Being Actually Different

The biggest branding mistake I see is trying to look like whoever seems to be winning. We see what’s working for someone else and immediately try to replicate it. But that’s the opposite of branding. If everyone in your industry is using the same fonts, the same colors, the same kind of content… that’s your signal to go the other direction. Study your competitors just long enough to find the gap. Then fill it with something that could only come from you.

Create a Brand Code That Keeps You Top of Mind

A brand code is something people see and immediately associate with you. It doesn’t have to be visual. For me it’s Dr. Pepper. People send me Dr. Pepper reels, clients bring them to shoots, and every single time they think of it they think of me. That’s not an accident. It’s a small, human, specific thing that keeps me memorable. What’s the thing people associate with you… and are you leaning into it enough?

The “We Only” List That Will Change How You Talk About Your Business

Sit down and write 25 sentences that start with “I am the only one who…” or “We are the only business that…” Not all of them will be great. That’s fine. The goal is to find the ones that actually land… because those are the things that belong on your website, in your content, and in every sales conversation you have. That list is your differentiation. And nobody can copy it because it comes from you.
