I seriously can’t believe I am writing this blog. Yesterday I gave birth to my baby boy (at least it feels like yesterday)….and today he is now an adult.
A few weeks ago I took Makai and two of his best friends to do their senior pictures together. I have been a Denver Senior Photographer for a long time, but it all came to fruition when I was doing my own son’s senior pictures. What a joy…and also an emotional time! I was a little bit of a wreck the day of these pictures.
I will do a full write up of the ins and outs of the session when I show you Landon and Josiah’s pictures in a future blog. For now, you can enjoy this picture of my son, my nephew, and my best friend’s son. As a mother, I am so thankful they have each other and I couldn’t have asked for better friendships for my son. Thank you Jesus that all those years of praying over him and his friendships has paid off!
For now, I just want to focus on this amazing young man. He is smart, he is funny, he is a good friend and he loves God. Seriously, as a mother, there is nothing more that I could ask for. This kid has also gotten pretty good at posing for photos after having a professional photographer as a mom. #mamarazzi
Makai found this hat the day before our session and brought it along. He has learned that having something to do with your hands (hold a hat) is a great help in a photoshoot. I also overheard him telling his friends that “you gotta move around during the pictures…it makes you look more comfortable”. So TRUE!
He is a big goofball that loves to make people laugh and he has a great sense of humor. I never would have said that as he was younger, but he has really leaned into his humor in the last few years and if you check out his TikTok you can see how funny he is! When we were going through the photos, he saw this one and just laughed and said “this is the true me”.
Anyone else getting some strong Marty McFly-Back to the Future vibes? I love that he knows who he is and he doesn’t care if something is in style or not. He creates his own style and I LOVE that!
He also has a huge passion for music and he is the drum major of the marching band and owns (and plays) more instruments that I can count (keyboard, guitar, electric guitar, melodica, tuba, flute, and so on). In addition to that, he helps lead worship for his youth group and also for our main church as well. I love seeing him up on stage using his talents for the Lord.
Originally he wanted to go to the Air Force Academy and had his heart set on it. But then we found out that he wasn’t able to apply because of his food allergies! Poor kid! He has taken it well and has decided instead that “when he is a millionare he will buy and fly his own plane”. Dream big, right?!
He has a bright future in front of him, not because of what he will do, but because of who he is. It doesn’t matter if he is an engineer, a truck driver, a hair stylist or whatever. As long as he continues to serve God and serve others, I will continue to be the proudest mother on earth.
Happy 18th birthday son! We are so proud of you and know that you are going to have a bright future…wherever the future takes you.

Awe! I love this!! I can totally relate. My daughter is turning 20 this week! Your son sounds like an amazing young man who has a bright future ahead of him!
It is hard to navigate this adult parenting thing, but it is also fun to see them becoming more of a friend and watching them grow into who they are. He is a good kid and I am so thankful!
