Derrick is another kid from my son’s elementary days. This summer was definitely a walk down memory lane.
Derrick is quiet but so nice and hard working.
He is a good kid and even volunteers at our church’s coffee bar! (Also nod to yet another cool fence with leading lines…if you missed the last one, check out Sydney’s session)
I think it is safe to say that blue is his favorite color! He is wearing it in all of his photos. Gotta love a kid who knows what he likes.
Downtown Littleton is hands down my favorite “urban” area to do pictures. There are so many great alley, staircases, paths and it even has some graffiti art that has popped up over the last few years.
All you have to do is wander around for a few minutes and you will find good spots. I especially like to explore the side streets because they aren’t as crowded. Especially for boys as they hate to be in front of the camera but they REALLY hate it if there is a crowd around.
I always try to do some photography “magic” at all of my sessions and highlight how it is all about how the camera sees something. It is easy to hide a sign, trash, or other unsightly things by having the right angle. This time, Derrick and his mom were joking about how they wanted a picture with a dumpster in it. Challenge accepted. Get a dumpster in the photo without letting it be too obvious or stand out and ruin the picture. What do you think? Did I nail it? It is so fun to try to make something amazing out of something that most others might overlook or avoid.
Derrick, thanks for being such a great kid! I can’t wait to see where life takes you next year. Enjoy the rest of your senior year!
