Branding photography is the next step to growing your business and increasing your credibility online. If you’ve never done any branding photos, you might be curious on what to expect! Since I’m a Denver commercial photographer, I get a lot of questions about branding photography. I’ve done a ton of these kinds of sessions, so I’m here to be your personal hype girl and pump you full of confidence. Here is some of my best advice on how to prepare for branding photos!

Make a List of Photos You NEED

As a business owner, you’re probably already recognizing places where you wish you had better photos. Your Facebook cover photo? That weird spot on your About Me page?

As you start planning your branding photography, it’s a great idea to pull out your phone or a google doc and make a list of where you have holes in your photography. Look at your social media, bios, website, sales pages, newsletters, ads and more. When the time comes, share this list with your photographer to ensure you get not only the images you want, but the images you NEED!

Prepare a Location

The next thing to consider for your branding photos is location. Your location communicates a lot about your brand–not to mention affecting the lighting, colors, and composition of your photos. And while it can be great to do some photos in your workshop or storefront, I recommend most business owners rent out a studio or space to make the photos unique and ensure that the lighting is amazing and the background matches your brand.

Consider Professional Hair and Makeup

But Lisa….”I hate having my photo taken”. If I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me, I would be a millionaire. I get it, we all hate to be in front of the camera. Getting professional hair and makeup will save you time, and give you confidence during your session. We all want to put our best foot forward, and having a professional get your makeup perfect for the camera is a game changer. Let me know if you need a recommendation here in Denver.

Don’t Forget Your Hands!

Don’t forget your nails! Nails are something that so many people overlook in photography! Remember that during a branding shoot, you’ll probably get close-ups that include your hands. There will also be plenty of shots with props and your nails will be noticeable. So prepare for branding photos by cleaning up your nails!

Find the Right Denver Commercial Photographer

This is KEY! You need a branding photographer that fits your vibe and will walk you through every step of the way. Remember that hiring a photographer is multifaceted. Ensure that you find someone who can accurately present your brand through their photos, help you plan your session to get the images you need and is communicative, helpful, and going to give you a positive experience from start to finish!

Take time to look through your photographer’s portfolio, and to pay close attention to your initial contact with your photographer to make sure they’re a good fit.

If you’re looking for a Denver commercial photographer with tons of experience (and a stellar personality *wink wink*), look no further! I place a high priority on helping each of my clients to feel like they got exactly what they were hoping for in their session. Book your branding photography session here!
