Are you ready? You ready to meet one of the most incredible families EVER!
Kacie contacted me late last summer and asked me if I had an experience working with kids with disabilities. It was an email that touched my heart. Perhaps some of you don’t know, but my oldest sister had a rare form of muscular dystrophy and passed away when she was 13 years old. So I felt confident when emailing Kacie letting her know that I was the gal (and photographer) for her family. Having a sister with special needs set me up for a lifetime of experience and empathy in the 6 short years I had with her.
We were able to chat back and forth via email about their circumstances and their unique and amazing family and I couldn’t wait to meet them.
Not only did they not disappoint, but they blew me out of the water! This session has got to go down as one of my favorites. Hopefully these pictures do them justice.
Kevin has Moebius syndrome which affects his facial muscles and eye movements. He also has several other conditions that are related to Moebius which means he has to be on a ventilator and feeding tube. His diagnosis does not slow down this family and I loved their “can do” attitude throughout the session. Can we go off the trail a bit….yes. Can we get Kevin out of his chair….yes. You name it, we did it!
He is very well loved…that is for sure.
They tackle life with joy, laughter and most importantly….together. It is rare to see such teamwork within a family. But special needs families have to work together and therefore they are SO good at it.
Conner is such a wonderful little brother. He jumps right in to help in any way he can and he is so charming (pretty sure he gets that from his dad).
Are you ready to hear about the next level of awesomeness? About a year ago they decided their family wasn’t quite complete, so they are fostering. They were paired with sweet Haiden and this little girl is well loved. I would NEVER have known that she wasn’t a part of their family from the beginning. She jumps right in a helps and she is clearly well loved. What a blessing on all sides.
Carlos is a lover. It was enduring the way he hugged, kissed and snuggled the kids. It is obvious that he LOVES being a dad.
And here is the real rockstar of the family. Special needs moms are special and unique (and probably exhausted so you should give them some chocolate and a nap). Kacie is the glue that holds this family together and she tackles life with a smile and a great attitude.
Doesn’t this just melt your heart.
Just a few weeks ago I was walking around church and I saw Haiden and Conner and I thought….I know those kids!!! Last week I finally caught up with Kacie it was great to chat a bit. I am glad that I get to see the incredible family on a more regular basis.
They are like the 3 musketeers.
I am pretty sure we even got Kevin to smile a bit.
Here are the two that started it all. It takes a strong marriage to deal with special needs and these two still have the spark!
You guys….it was a joy and honor to capture this family and get to know them a little bit. I am looking forward to strengthening our friendship!
