There are few things that bring me as much joy as an email saying “we are expecting a baby”. Especially if this email comes from a couple that I have known and loved for years!
I was lucky enough to do engagement photos, their destination wedding in Grand Cayman and their Colorado reception for this amazing couple and I have known their extended family for even longer. So when Brittany and Nick reached out to me to let me know that they were expecting a baby boy, I was beyond thrilled. And then my excitement went to a whole new level when they said they wanted me there to document the birth of baby Camden as well. Y’all know how much I LOVE birth photography. It is my favorite!!
I don’t really love to get woken up in the middle of the night….except when there is an expectant mother on the other end and then I am wide awake and excited beyond measure to greet the day and a new baby. Never feel bad texting or calling me in the middle of the night if you are having a baby and want me to take some birth pictures. I will be up and at ’em in no time!
Brittany was admitted in the wee hours of the morning, but I was able to go back to sleep for a little bit (after making sure all of my bags were packed first) and then arrange pickups for the kids, run a few errands and head over towards the Sky Ridge area mid morning. Things started to get real around 2:30 or 3:00 after Brittany had some time to relax and rest. She was such a force to be reckoned with and was a rock star when it came to pushing!
When you are having a baby at a mile high, sometimes you need a little extra oxygen.
She had great cheerleaders (and leg holders) in her sweet Mom and her husband Nick. They were amazing!
And just before 4:30, little Camden made his appearance.
Time to cut the cord.
This one is my favorite. They waited a long time to be parents and a lot of trials to overcome, and this tear on Brittany’s cheek encompasses all of that emotion.
I love the connection points in this photo: Gami, mom, dad and baby all together.
He was perfect in every way and did great adjusting to the thin Colorado air and high altitude. Some babies have a hard time with that and need some extra oxygen or attention right after birth, but Camden was perfectly content to hang out with his mom and he didn’t need any extra help.
Another favorite.
Look at Brittany’s mom’s face. Isn’t it the best???? So full of joy! The only thing better than becoming a mom…..is becoming a grandma (or so I have heard….I don’t want to test that theory for a few more years).
Once he got some skin to skin time with mom, it was time to trim his cord, get his weight, footprints and all of the other necessary stats for his birth certificate.
Look at those rolls and that hair!
And if you know me at all, you know that I am obsessed with baby toes. So here is the obligatory toesy picture.
It is at this point that the dad really gets to shine. I love watching the dads as they don’t want to leave the baby’s side and are completely engrossed in everything happening. Nick was definitely enamored!
Camden has them both wrapped around his little fingers already.
Congratulations Walkers! I am so honored that I got to be a part of this amazing day!
Stay tuned for Camden’s sweet newborn photos next week!
