I often have people ask me what kind of sessions are my favorite. I have two….seniors and birth. They are completely different but I love them for different reasons! That doesn’t mean that I don’t love taking pictures of newborns, families, or everything in between! I always get excited in May when senior picture season comes near.
The other thing I love is that the seniors I am working with this year (and the last few years) often are kids that I know and have known for years!! It makes for such fun sessions that are comfortable and we get great images because of that. Case in point. Jackie. We have been a part of the Gator Swim Team for the last 8 years. The Mudds are part of the central core of that team and they are the best cheerleaders. I have loved watching Jackie over the years sweep the platform at the swim meets, so when she asked me to do her pictures I was excited (and humbled).
I have been shooting at Bear Creek Lake Park for years and I have done a lot of sessions there. There are a ton of great spots, but I felt like I had done the same areas and I needed to mix it up a bit. So I got to the park early and spent time driving around and look what I stumbled upon. Are you kidding me??? Who knew that Denver had an open field of tall green grass with the mountains in the background.
Pair that with this cute dress and it was a winning combination. It is also super sweet because Jackie’s grandma loved daisy’s and it made these pictures even more sentimental for the entire family.
I am also a sucker for pictures in the middle of the road….but that is often hard to do, what with cars usually being on roads. But this cute tree lined road leads to the campground at Bear Creek Lake Park and therefore there wasn’t a ton of traffic on a Tuesday evening.
Class of 2020. I can’t believe it!
This girl practically lives in the water, so we had to incorporate some kind of water into the photos!
When your cute outfit matches the yellow flowers at the park….
The light that night was incredible!! It was a blast to go through the park and find beautiful spots for pictures.
I have learned to have the kids save their favorite outfit for last. Usually the lighting is the best at the end of the session, and they are more comfortable in front of the camera and it makes for the best images.
See what I mean?? I think this is one of my favorites from the entire session! Jackie is so beautiful on the inside and outside and is one of the toughest competitors with whatever she puts her mind to. She is going to do amazing things in her life!
Jackie’s mom had something come up that night so she wasn’t able to be there for pictures, but her dad was there and it was so fun to blow his mind. Photography is all about the right angle and lighting and that is hard to see from a side perspective. I loved taking a photo and then showing he (and Jackie) the back of my camera. They couldn’t believe it! This was taken in what kind of looked like a sparse area of weeds with one little bush of purple flowers. Put the pretty girl in front of the flowers and get really low to the ground when taking the picture and BOOM!
Later, when he saw the finished photos I got this text message from him and I almost cried. “I just looked at all the pictures and they are truly UNBELIEVABLE!! I’m so happy and I really appreciate all of your hard work. They are priceless. I’ll never stop looking at these”. That is why I love senior photos and my specifically why I love my LiLo clients!
The lighting was perfect and I just couldn’t help but continue to take pictures. We went a little bit over on our time, but Jackie was still rockin’ it and the sun was perfect!
I think if she decides to give up swimming (or her other 100 activities), she could have a career in modeling, don’t you think?
One more picture for the road…..(pun intended)
Here’s to another amazing Columbine Rebel class of 2020.
Happy Senior Year Jackie!! I hope your year is as amazing as you are!
